Invisible Disability Uncovered

For this project, Wilson focused on uncovering and understanding the stigma and misunderstandings surrounding hidden disabilities and, in particular, his own mixture of hidden disabilities (ADHD, Dyspraxia and Acquired Brain Injury)

The project began as a response to the Taylor Wessing Prize after seeing many of the images displayed that were related to disability. However, he wanted to expand his practice by drawing upon and further developing my understanding his my own disabilities through the medium of photography and to draw attention to the less seen & understood side of disability.

In order to create these images, he chose to work in the studio, using his own body in a form of performance art in front of the lens. Using a long shutter speed, he was able to capture visualisations of both the rapid actions and impulsivity of his ADHD and the confusion and lack of understanding that comes as a result of my brain injury.
